Represented an international energy group in an UNCITRAL arbitration involving a USD 22.4 billion claim against regional governments of a Eurasian country for breach of obligations under a production sharing and oil field development agreement
Led a legal team in representing Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA) as bankruptcy trustee of Mezhprombank CJSC in connection with international litigation against Russian oligarch Sergei Pugachev and the bank's former management, who were accused of driving the bank into insolvency, as well as obtaining judicial seizure of the defendant's assets abroad with a value of up to USD 2 billion. The proceedings took place in, among other jurisdictions, Russia, England, France, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Turkey, the BVI and the Cayman Islands and involved a significant number of precedents, including the award of a then-record amount from the bank's controlling persons in Russia on the basis of subsidiary liability; recognition of the concept of "de facto control" as a basis for subsidiary liability; the first-ever recognition of the powers of a Russian bankruptcy liquidator by a court in England; the case of a worldwide asset seizure order in support of a Russian bankruptcy proceeding; the first time a Russian bankruptcy judgment based on subsidiary liability was recognized and enforced; and the first-ever foreclosure against assets held in a discretionary trust
Represented a leading Russian bank in fourteen LCIA arbitrations involving claims against a major steel company in connection with its default on obligations worth over USD 2 billion
Represented BTA Bank (Kazakhstan) in one of the largest asset recovery proceedings in the world regarding fraudulent transactions worth over USD 6 billion by the bank's former management. Acted as lead counsel in Russian courts with respect to recognition and enforcement of an English judgment for a record amount of over USD 730 million (the firm was named "Litigation Firm of the Year" by The Lawyer Awards 2013 for its representation of BTA Bank in the largest fraud case to be seen in a London court)
